These postcards from the Hanford Mills Museum show daily life scenes from East Meredith and other hydropower sites from around New York State. Hanford Mills was once the primary source of electricity, via hydropower, for East Meredith and its neighbors.
Chemung County Library District's Steele Memorial Library sent over newly digitized old books about Elmira's history. One, an 1892 city directory, joined the other Elmira city directories, but the other four books have their own collection now. There's an 1891 "Glance at Elmira," a 1910 "Views of Elmira," an 1894 pictorial about the Great Flood of 1889, and an anniversary scrapbook about the Elmira Free Academy from 1909.
In May of 2024, Wells College announced that it would not reopen after the end of the semester. In cooperation with the Library Director Tiffany Raymond, we opened up the opportunity of a crowd-sourced digital collection, meant to be an online scrapbook of the Wells student experience.
