Cheery Friday Greetings!

Our strategic plan a.k.a. the Plan of Service is an organic document that guides SCRLC and communicates the essential pieces about us and what we do. It contains our mission, vision, the identified goals and actions needed to achieve them, as well as other elements identified during the planning process, e.g., guiding principles, opportunities and challenges. The planning process included discussions with the membership and input from regional meetings, the Plan of Service Design Team, the Board of Trustees, advisory committees, and staff. The Plan, like our entire organization, is member-driven.

SCRLC's Plan of Service spans five years as per a statutory requirement. From the Plan, we develop an annual work plan. The advisory committees and program managers derive yearly objectives and activities from it. I carry a copy with me, it's on our website, and it's at hand's length in the office. Indeed, The Plan helps all of us to work toward common goals.

This is the time of the year when our annual report is due to the State Library. It is always such a relief when the SEND key is pressed and the report successfully beams to the Division of Library Development! Creating the annual report is yet another opportunity to review the stated goals to make sure that we are doing what we said we were going to do. Obviously it's a five-year plan and we cannot accomplish every single component of the plan in one year! Thanks to the advisory committees and a very committed staff, it is amazing what we can accomplish each year! We will be presenting the report to you at the October 27 annual meeting. With much gratitude to the staff, advisory committees, and Board--and also to the special task forces that we have now and again--I thank everyone for their hard work in achieving the goals of this organization!

Yours in partnership,
