Description: Student employees are vital to the operations of a library. Hiring, training, and creating a diverse and inclusive working environment are part of the duties of a supervisor of student employees.
This online discussion will focus on student employment practices that will include information on hiring, communication styles, crafting a working agreement, creating a diverse and inclusive team, recognizing student employees, as well as student employees who work remotely.
Speaker: Ben Hogben is the Access Services Manager for the Ithaca College Library and supervises student employees, student managers and four full time staff members.
Ben has a BA from Ithaca College and training that includes employee and student coaching, and MBTI certification. He has written articles on coaching employees, conducting performance evaluations, hiring and training student employees, and co-authored an article on Animal Assisted Activities at the Library.
