Audience: This webinar is for anyone dealing with their own or a colleague's grief in the workplace or for if you would like to proactively learn coping strategies and ways to help.

 

Description: This webinar will focus on understanding the grief process and how it impacts those affected by the loss including dealing with your own grief while at work or supporting a bereaved colleague in the workplace. Coping strategies, suggestions on what to say or not say and helpful resources for dealing with grief will be addressed.

 

Presenters:

Donna George, LCSW, ACHP-SW, FT has been employed with Hospicare and Palliative Care Services since 1992 and has been the Bereavement Services Manager for over twenty years. As the Bereavement Services Manager, she is responsible for organizing and facilitating bereavement support for hospice families and the community at large. Her primary focus at HPCS has been providing individual counseling, facilitating grief groups and promoting education and information related to the grief process to assist those who have been impacted by loss.

Donna grew up in Upstate New York where she received an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Tompkins Cortland Community College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community and Human Services from Empire State College, and a Masters in Social Work from SUNY at Buffalo. She has also received a Fellow in Thanatology: Death, Dying and Bereavement (FT) certification from the Association for Death Education and Counseling. Thanatology is the study of the medical, psychological, and sociological aspects of death and the ways in which people deal with it. She is a licensed clinical social worker and has received an advanced certification as a hospice and palliative care social worker through the NASW and Hospice Foundation of America.

 

Laura Ward, LMFT has been a bereavement counselor at Hospicare and Palliative Care Services since 2014 and has a private counseling practice in Ithaca, NY. Laura has worked as a counselor for non-profit organizations for more than 15 years and has a wide variety of experience and training. In addition to grief, she has recently received training in EMDR and AEDP. Laura is a certified divorce mediator and Collaborative Law professional and worked to support families through and after divorce for 10 years. In addition, she has presented locally and nationally on a variety of topics related to Collaborative Divorce and LGBT issues. Laura taught developmental psychology courses at TC3 as an adjunct professor for 5 years. A Michigan native, Laura received her B.S. in psychology from Northern Michigan University in 2000 and her M.S. in Psychology in 2003. She was licensed as a Marriage & Family therapist in CA in 2006 and in NY in 2013.
