Workshop Description: For many futurists and foresight professionals, thinking about the future starts when we activate our minds to looks for signals and trends outside of our immediate environments. In a profession like librarianship, which has adapted to generations of changes and trends, we combine those signals with our professional values to envision new futures for our spaces, programs, services, collections, and partnerships. This session will share some trends and signals that could be important for the future of libraries. With these insights - and with our own community insights and evidence – attendees will propose a positive innovation for the future of libraries.

All Advisory Committee Meeting: The committee meeting is specifically for board and committee members to review committee activities and outcomes for 2017 and to discuss activities for 2018.

Miguel Figueroa works at the Center for the Future of Libraries (www.ala.org/libraryofthefuture), an initiative from the American Library Association. He has previously held positions at the American Theological Library Association; ALA's Office for Diversity and Office for Literacy and Outreach Services; NYU's EhrmanMedical Library; and Neal-Schuman Publishers. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona's Knowledge River Program, an initiative that examines library issues from Hispanic and Native American perspectives.
