Description: Arden Kirkland, lead developer for the Community Module and Project Coordinator for the D4L program, will lead program alumni in a discussion about the practices they have incorporated into their own online teaching as a result of their experience with this module. She will also present the new and improved version of the module, launching on WebJunction.org this summer, and will share information about the D4L program as a whole, including the relationships formed among alumni as they keep in touch through a continuing community of practice.
Ms. Kirkland is an independent digital librarian, providing consulting services for digital collections and online learning.
Mary-Carol Lindbloom, Project Director for D4L, will also help facilitate the discussion. Ms. Lindbloom is the Executive Director of South Central Regional Library Council (SCRLC).
Program Alumni Panelists:
Kathy Smith is a former public library librarian. She is currently working towards a masters degree in Educational Technology. Her capstone project is PowerPoint Tips & Tricks. An introductory video is available at: https://youtu.be/-mfXRYZcKms.
Bethany McGowan is an Assistant Professor of Library Sciences and Health Sciences Information Specialist at Purdue University in West Lafayette. IN. Her capstone project is an online train-the-trainer course where librarians teach K-12 teachers to incorporate information literacy competencies into daily lesson plans.
Jill Cuba is the Computer Services Coordinator/Reference Librarian at the West Babylon Public Library on Long Island, NY. Her capstone project focuses on "8 Mobile Things". The course includes 8 lessons each utilizing a mobile device and apps and will prepare Librarians to provide one-on-one instruction to patrons using the Library's Tech Tutor service and to assist patrons at the Reference desk.
