 Getting Started with Digitization

Getting Started with Digitization1:00PM-2:00PM April 24th, 2017

REGISTRATION CLOSED.

Online via GoToWebinar

Audience: Librarians and staff at smaller libraries and historical organizations

Description: Digitizing historical and cultural heritage collections is very important to create an online presence for smaller libraries and historical organizations, but often seems impossible with tiny staffs and minimal funding. However, that digitization project you've been dreaming about may not be so far out of reach! SCRLC has many resources to help smaller organizations get their digitization projects off the ground, and no organization is too small to start digitizing!

Topics will include:

*Why starting a digitization program is important for small organizations.

*What steps are involved in starting a digitization project, including project planning, equipment, and metadata description.

*How you can host your digitized content in New York Heritage Digital Collections, the Digital Public Library of America, and New York State Historic Newspapers.

*What services are available through SCRLC to get you started digitizing your collections for little or no cost.

Julia Corrice is the Digital Services Librarian at SCRLC. Julia received her Master of Library and Information Science with a Certificate of Advanced Study in Digital Libraries from Syracuse University, and a BS in History from Elmira College. Her previous library experience includes original cataloging, digital asset management, and electronic resource and serials management. Julia came to SCRLC from the Juliette K. and Leonard S. Rakow Research Library of The Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY.
