This program will cover the basic principles of weeding, including a variety of approaches, both scientific and intuitive. The class will review the common barriers to weeding and practical approaches to successful collection management. Beyond common principles, there are also issues unique to each type of library that will be addressed.

Marc Wildman is the Assistant Director for Patron Services at DeWitt Community Library. He has over 25 years of library experience in serials, cataloging, and collection management. Marc is familiar with weeding from both sides of librarianship as a subject bibliographer and as a supervisor of a Technical Services department, where deselected books are processed and withdrawn from the online catalog. He also has experience in Academic, Public, and Special libraries and the issues that concern weeding at these similar, yet different, institutions.

This session is a $105 value, so the class fee represents a 91% savings.
