Three SCRLC members were awarded grant funding for expert consulting assistance with Dr. Kawanna Bright to make systemic changes within their organizations related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Join Dr. Bright and the project participants to learn about what they decided to work on over the past year, what advice they received, what worked and didn't work as they put their knowledge into practice, and how this impacts their libraries.

Dr. Kawanna Bright (she/her), Assistant Professor of Library Science at East Carolina University, earned her PhD in Research Methods and Statistics from the U. of Denver in 2018. Prior to earning her PhD, Dr. Bright worked as an academic librarian for 12 years, with a focus on reference, instruction, and information literacy. Dr. Bright’s current research focuses on assessment in libraries, EDI in libraries, the application of research methodology to the study of LIS, and the importance of the liaison librarianship role in academic libraries. Dr. Bright provides consulting services for libraries and other information organizations in support of EDI efforts, strategic planning, and project development.

As an educated, middle-aged, middle class, white woman, she began her journey of discovery and personal change in 2015. Acknowledging that her learning is ongoing, she is now taking meaningful action towards addressing systemic injustices within the academic realm.
