Geneva Public Library

Assistant Library Director
The Geneva Public Library in Geneva, New York, is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Library Director II. The 2008-2009 salary range for this position is  $44,000.00 - $59,400.00.   The library's internal brand is to "connect people and enrich lives" and seeks vibrant, dedicated, creative, welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable candidates for this position.

The Geneva Public Library recently re-chartered as public school district library and serves the Geneva City School District,  a diverse community of 17,000 located on Seneca Lake. The library also serves as the Central Library of the Pioneer Library System and serves the residents and member libraries of Ontario, Wayne, Livingston, and Wyoming counties.  Additional information about the library is available at genevapubliclibrary.net.

This is a civil service position and an open-competitive civil service exam for this position has been announced by the Ontario County Department of Human Resources.  Applications MUST be postmarked no later than December 31, 2008, and sent directly to the Ontario County Department of Human Resources at 3019 County Complex Drive, Canandaigua, New York 14424 (585-396-4465).

The exam for the position consists of a web-based training and experience questionnaire. Candidates determined to meet the minimum requirements for the position by the Ontario County Department of Human Resources will have February 1, 2009, to February 28, 2009, to complete this questionnaire.

Candidates must be legal residents of New York State for at least one month immediately preceding the examination date. Preference in appointment may be given to residents of the Geneva City School District.

Guernsey Memorial Library

Library Director

The Trustees of Guernsey Memorial Library in Norwich, N.Y. are seeking an innovative, highly motivated and resourceful Library Director to serve as a full time director beginning February 1, 2009, or as soon as possible, thereafter. The director is responsible for the ongoing operation of a library with 23 full and part-time employees, a budget of $1M, circulation of over 178,000, and a collection of over 76,000 items, serving a population of 13,500+.
Qualifications: Must have an ALA recognized MLS and at least five years experience in a supervisory position with fiscal responsibility.
Job Description: This is a Library Director I position as described in the NYS Civil Service Library Director’s position description, with excellent benefits.
Salary: $48,000 $55,000, commensurate with experience. Closing Date: January 15, 2009

Tompkins County Public Library

Librarian I Part Time
The Tompkins County Public Library (Ithaca NY  www.tcpl.org  ) is seeking an enthusiastic and service-oriented part-time Librarian I to join our Adult Services Department. Duties will include working with other staff on collection development, information literacy, providing friendly and exceptional reference service and assisting and instructing patrons on the use of the library catalog, electronic databases, Internet, MS Word and Excel applications and microform machines. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to customer service, be able to work effectively as part of a team, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with statistical data and budgets. Position is immediately available. 20 hours per week, some evening and weekend hours will be required. Starting salary $21.81, excellent benefit package.
Minimum qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science and eligibility for a New York State Professional Librarian Certificate.

ELMIRA COLLEGE - Two Positions
 

Information Services Librarian

Position Summary:
  Elmira College in Elmira, New York, is seeking a service-oriented librarian to manage circulation, electronic resources, Web content and library systems, to provide reference and instruction services and to serve as collection development liaison with faculty in curriculum areas, in the student-centered Gannett-Tripp Library. This is a twelve-month position with faculty rank (not tenure), 22 vacation days, TIAA-CREF, and salary commensurate with experience. Some evening and weekend work required.

Elmira College – first to offer a comprehensive curriculum for women, home of the Center for Mark Twain Studies – is a small, residential, liberal arts college in a pleasant community in the Finger Lakes region of New York State (county population 100,000). The College’s enrollment continues strong. 14% of the current student body graduated first or second in their high school or prep school class. Average Class size is 17; student-faculty ratio is 12:1.
